As part of the ‘FlüGe‘ - refugee health project, we are taking a closer look at the diversity and the genetical dynamics of Staphylococcus aureus isolates, that were isolated from nasal swabs of refugees. The identified S. aureus isolates will be analyzed regarding virulence factors, like toxin genes, antibiotic resistance genes, surface adhesins or biofilm genes. The virulence capacity of the isolates will be set in context to what the carriers predicated about former hospitalization and taking of antibiotics in a questionnaire. Isolates that are of special interest will be further investigated by whole genome sequencing.
