Biorenewables

Bio-based raw materials in our research

An ongoing challenge involves pioneering new pathways for the production of industrial chemicals using biorenewable resources. These innovative bio-based production methods are particularly sought after for what are known as bulk chemicals, manufactured at volumes reaching multi-thousand tons. Our research focus on the development of novel biobased monomer compounds for the production of sustainable and biodegradable plastics and polymers. Additionally, we explore chemoenzymatic approaches to synthesize linear aliphatic nitriles and dinitriles, eliminating the need for cyanide, a commonly utilized reagent in traditional nitrile syntheses. In recent years, we've collaborated closely with leading international and local companies to integrate eco-friendly products into their portfolios. Industrial research partners engaged in pioneering synthetic routes towards bulk chemicals from biorenewable sources include BASF, Klüber Lubrication München, OXEA Chemicals (now: OQ), and Windmöller.
