Trumpism, Orbánism, Merkelism - these terms, that we come across in the news, are inspired by politicians, their behaviors and performances. In many cases people using these words do not define their meanings to their audience, rather they have an expectation that a common understanding of the terms exists with the public in every respective context.
With a sociohistorical approach, I explore the use of various '-Isms' based on political actors as defining forces. In doing so, I aim to examine the historical and political contexts in which '-Isms' arise as well as how they are developed, used and adapted across time and location.
