Regional Cluster of Innovation as part of the BMBF Research Focus "Human-Technology Interaction in the Demographic Shift"

Motivation

This project investigates how networked technology can make daily life in the domestic sphere easier in a number of different ways, enrich the quality of one's experiences, and improve health and safety at home, which in turn can help to create better conditions for leading an independent life for as long as possible in old age.

Goals and Methods

Partners from industry, research and development, and the services sector come together on this project to address the question of how helpful, smart, and trustworthy technical systems that can assist humans in a variety of different ways can be made a reality. The goal is to develop a technology that does not use complicated operating interfaces, and instead enables natural interaction through language and gestures. This includes developing a system that 'learns as it goes', meaning that it adjusts to changing demands and phases of life. The goals of the smart apartment will be implemented by way of example in the kitchen (for cooking), entrance area of the home, and in individualized health coaching.

Innovations and Future Prospects

The Cluster of Innovation KogniHome brings together the innovative potential of a region of excellence and turns it into reality. In the area of smart living spaces, the Cluster is using advancements in technology to design everyday life according to the needs and desires of users from all generations.
