The BGHS assists the supervision relationship between professors and doctoral researchers at various levels:
By signing the Supervision Agreement, the supervisor, the doctoral researcher and the BGHS agree on the modalities of the supervision relationship at the beginning of the doctorate. Useful information on how to structure the supervision relationship can also be found in the guidelines for good supervision of doctoral researchers.
Annual Progress Reports of the doctoral researchers, in which they describe their work process, allow for reflection on progress. Doctoral researchers send their progress reports to the respective supervisor and the BGHS office. The supervisors send an informal statement on the report as a letter or email to the BGHS office, which will give the doctoral researchers feedback.
The BGHS considers itself responsible for supporting doctoral researchers and supervisors of the BGHS in conflict situations and, at the request of the parties involved, accompanies the process of conflict resolution. Supervisors can ask the contact person at the BGHS office or directly contact the BGHS-“Vertrauensdozent*in” (academic liaison). All issues raised will be treated confidentially.
