Matthias Orlikowski

Matthias Orlikowski is a doctoral researcher working on systems to mitigate online hate speech within the "Bots Building Bridges" project (Volkswagen Foundation), supervised by Philipp Cimiano. His current research focuses on computational approaches to detect hate speech, generate countering statements and evaluate their effectiveness.

Matthias has a background in Sociology, Computer Science and Computational Linguistics with a BA and a MSc from Bielefeld University and visits at University of Warwick (UK) and Copenhagen Business School (Denmark). During his Masters, he spent three months as a research intern at the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab at TU Darmstadt (Germany).

Before joining the Semantic Computing Group, Matthias was an NLP solutions engineer at AI startup Semalytix, in particular contributing to the company's activites as industry partner in the EU-funded research project Prêt-à-LLOD. Previously, he was a research assistant at the Chair of Digital Humanities at Paderborn University (Germany).
