General Information: Vienna is not only the capital and most populous city of Austria, but has great cultural and political importance. Vienna is the seat of important international organizations such as OPEC, UNO or OSCE and its old town and other historical buildings have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city thus exerts significant influence on social and political changes in Europe. The University of Vienna is the largest educational institution in the country. It currently enrolls around 90,000 national and international students. With a total of over 180 degree programs, it has the most diverse range of courses in the country.
Study programs and specializations: The Faculty of Psychology offers a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in psychology. Four concentrations are offered in the master's program: Work, Business, and Society; Development and Education; Mind and Brain; and Clinical and Health Psychology.
Study schedule: The winter semester usually begins in early October and ends in late January. The summer semester usually begins in early March and ends in late June. Examinations normally take place no more than two weeks after the lecture period.
Other information: Exchange students have to register at the University of Vienna for a so-called Orientation Session, which lasts about 60 to 90 minutes. During this session you will receive your student ID and important information about living and studying in Vienna. Personal attendance is required. Orientations for the winter semester take place between the beginning of September and the beginning of October, orientations for the summer semester between the beginning of February and the beginning of March. The University of Vienna recommends arriving in Vienna two weeks before the semester begins. Students who have been nominated for Psychology are generally allowed to take all courses offered by the Faculty of Psychology with the exception of the Master's thesis seminars.
