Cognition and Action Labs

To understand the Cognitive Architecture of Human Inter-Action, the group has further developed different psychological methods to analyse both, the mental structures of action representation in human long-term memory and chunking processes in working memory (Memory Lab, EEG Cognition Lab), as well as biomechanical methods to capture the execution of complex movements and human interaction in real-time (Sensorimotor Lab, Biomechanics Lab and Social Motor Learning Lab). Combining these approaches it is possible to study the relationship between cognition and performance in human action and interaction and focus on cognitive building blocks of motor intelligence in humans and robots in order to support research in Cognitive Interaction Technology (Mobile Action Assistance Lab and cooperative CITEC Labs).

    Biomechanics Lab

In the Biomechanics Lab (Cognitive Biomechanics and Augmented Reality together with Inter-Motion Lab) the kinematics and dynamics of complex human motion are investigated. Additionally, the lab provides a set-up for moving in a virtual reality environment.

    EEG Cognition Lab

The neurophysiological correlates of mental processes and representation structures are investigated in the EEG Cognition Lab (Neuromotion and Neurosimulation).

    Memory Lab

The cognitive structures of skill representations can be measured in the Memory Lab (Cognitive Representation and Motion Intelligence), where specific methods are used to test participants' performance in experiments on the organization of their long-term and short-term memory systems.

    Manual Action Lab

The focus of the Manual Action Lab is to investigate how humans plan, execute, and control their movements during goal-directed tasks. The research conducted by members of the MA Lab is diverse, ranging from basic research on cognition, perception, and action, to understanding the neural bases of motor planning and control.

    Sensorimotor Lab

The Sensorimotor Lab (Human Perception and Sensomotorics) examines the planning and execution of goal-directed reaching and grasping actions in children and adults, as well as the interaction of mental processes that subserve motor actions and memory tasks.

    Social Motor Learning Lab

The focus of the Social Motor Learning Lab is to investigate the underlying motor and perceptual-cognitive adaptations that occur during the acquisition of complex motor skills. Furthermore, we are interested in how humans learn to interact with other humans or robotic platforms.

    Mobile Action Assistance Lab

In the Mobile Action Assistance Lab we combine different mobile techniques, like eye tracking, measurement of mental representation structures, wearable sensor technology, AR.
